Springfield is an unincorporated community near Kingstowne in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States and is a suburb of Washington, D.C. Springfield postal addresses are found in three census-designated places: Springfield, North Springfield and West Springfield and Newington. Springfield District, located in the same area, is one of nine districts of Fairfax County.

Franconia is located near Kingstowne just southwest of the City of Alexandria in Fairfax County. Franconia has existed as a community since the 1870s when a station by that name opened on the RF&P Railroad; however, like most of the surrounding area, it only began to develop into its present, suburban form in the 1950s.
